Former B-Met Matt Harvey on the Comeback Trail

New York Met standout Matt Harvey is returning from “Tommy John” surgery on his pitching elbow.  So far so good for the young right-hander as he has looked impressive in two of his three starts in Spring Training.  He missed all of the 2014 season after getting injured in 2013.  Harvey was the National League’s starting pitcher in the All-Star game and was 9-5 with an ERA of 2.27 before he was sidelined.

Now, after extensive rehabilitation, Harvey appears to be ready to pick-up where he left off in 2013.  In his last outing against the Boston Red Sox he threw four scoreless innings, struck out three and scattered three hits.  In his three outings this spring he has an ERA of 2.08 with eight strikeouts in 8.2 innings pitched.  His next scheduled start is Sunday in Port St Lucie when the Mets host the New York Yankees.

Like many of the New York Mets Harvey honed his skills in Binghamton.  In 2011 he went 5-3 with an ERA of 4.53 in 59.2 innings pitched.  He also pitched in the 2011 Futures All-Star Game.
