Former Front Street Hotel Demolition Moves Forward
The Broome Land Bank has approved demolition of the former Renaissance Plaza on Front Street near the Leroy Street intersection.
The former hotel, then long-term care facility has been vacant for years.
While the Land Bank okayed tearing down the building, which has been the site of on-going complaints about criminal activity, including the theft of wire and pipes from inside, the demolition needs approval from the Commission on Architecture and Urban Design.
That approval is required by city code since the building is older than 40 years old.
$3 million in New York State grants have been secured to demolish the building.
