New York State Thruway officials have warned travelers heading to Syracuse for the opening of the New York State Fair on Thursday that President Obama’s central New York visit could cause traffic hangups.

President Obama’s bus tour will take him to the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse areas on Thursday. The trip will then head south on I-81 on Friday for his visit at SUNY Binghamton and then on to Scranton.

Thruway officials have warned tourists heading to the fair that the highway may be shut down on and off during Obama’s visit. At other places along the Thruway, toll booths will be closed and not allow travelers to enter I-90.

These delays could take place between Syracuse and all points west. Thousands of visitors are expected to head to Syracuse for the fair opening today.
