State AG Launches Program to Help Seniors Avoid Scams
The State Attorney General’s Office has launched a statewide investment fraud initiative called “Smart Seniors, Smart Investors — Don’t Get Scammed.”
The program is designed to help seniors identify potential scams and rip offs before they happen. The focus will be on investment and financial fraud that target older New Yorkers, including the warning signs, how to avoid being taken advantage of, and where to seek help if you think you are a victim.
Eleven events will be held over the next five weeks across the state, including one in Onondaga County.
The broad advice include:
- Ask questions
- Be prepared to say no
- Get a second opinion from your attorney, stockbroker, consultant or another reliable person.
